Governo das Bahamas vende o luxuoso resort Grand Lucayan
No último dia 2 de março de 2020, o Governo das Ilhas das Bahamas vendeu o resort de luxo Grand Lucayan à sociedade formada pelas empresas Royal Caribbean International e Bahamas Port Investments Ltd. (ITM Group). Espera-se que sejam investidos US$ 250 milhões na reforma da propriedade e do porto de cruzeiros. A Cerimônia de Assinatura do Contrato de Promessa de Compra foi realizada no grande gramado da propriedade, 11 meses após a assinatura da Carta de intenções ocorrida em 27 de março de 2019.
O primeiro-ministro das Bahamas, Hubert Minnis, enalteceu o acontecimento, já que a intenção do governo nunca foi apropriar-se do Grand Lucayan, mas inicialmente comprou o resort para manter empregos e as grandes empresas nas Ilhas. “Como dissemos na época, nossa intenção era privatizar a propriedade o mais rápido possível”.
“Queríamos ter certeza de encontrar o comprador certo que compartilhasse da nossa visão para a renovação de Grand Bahama. Nosso objetivo é a renovação e o renascimento do setor e do produto de turismo de Grand Bahama como um elemento essencial para restaurar o potencial desta ilha”. O primeiro-ministro também observou que atualmente estão em andamento conversações para determinar a melhor maneira de construir o Aeroporto Internacional Grand Bahama, o que exigirá um grande investimento.
O Ministro do Turismo e Aviação, Dionisio D’Aguilar disse: “Estou extremamente empolgado que os potenciais compradores deste hotel sejam a Royal Caribbean e o ITM Group. Eles têm um excelente histórico financeiro e poderão contribuir com sua experiência no setor de turismo por terem realizado grandes projetos bem-sucedidos”.
O desenvolvimento planejado para o Grand Lucayan trará uma transformação total do resort. Centenas de milhões de dólares serão investidos na propriedade para reformar, remodelar e reconstruir 500 quartos na primeira fase e outros 500 quartos, além de 500 vilas na segunda fase. Recursos adicionais incluirão um novo cassino, um espetacular parque aquático e temático, um novo shopping, restaurantes e lojas.
