Aston Martin voltará a ter uma equipe de Fórmula 1 a partir de 2021

Os acionistas da Aston Martin aprovaram a volta da marca britânica à Fórmula 1 como construtora a partir de 2021, anunciou a atual escuderia Racing Point, que se tornará a Aston Martin F1 Team na próxima temporada, em comunicado publicado nesta semana. “Na segunda-feira 30 de março, os acionistas da Aston Martin aprovaram um aumento de fundos de 536 milhões de libras (607 milhões de euros), apoiado pela injeção de 260 milhões de libras (294 milhões de euros) de capital pela Yew Tree Consortium -um grupo de investidores liderado por Lawrence Stroll (atual proprietário da Racing Point)”, anunciou. “Com este investimento, Stroll se tornará o presidente executivo da Aston Martin e a Aston Martin irá criar sua própria escuderia de F1” a partir da Racing Point, com sede em Silverstone, no Reino Unido.

O projeto, ligado a um plano para salvar a Aston Martin financeiramente, foi revelado no dia 31 de janeiro. Sua aprovação acontece num momento em que a crise causada pela pandemia do coronavírus abala a F1, que se viu obrigada a adiar ou cancelar as oito primeiras corridas da temporada 2020.

A Aston Martin, patrocinadora da Red Bull até final de 2020, competiu como construtora na F1 em 1959 e 1960. A Racing Point foi criada em 2018 após a falência da Force India e a compra da equipe por parte do bilionário canadense Lawrence Stroll.
