Araken Hipólito da Costa nascido no Rio, em 30 de maio, de 1946, iniciou a pintura aos 15 anos, mais propriamente na cidade de Fortaleza, onde fora morar com seus pais.
Ao longo de quase 60 anos dedicou-se a arte e, paralelamente a este percurso, trilhou outros caminhos que enriqueceu sua cosmovisão. Jovem , ingressou na Força Aérea brasileira, tornou-se piloto de caça, conheceu o Brasil, novos países e captou imagens aéreas.
No meio do caminho usou régua e compasso, quando concluiu o Curso de Arquitetura no Bennett, trazendo novos olhares sobre a pintura.
Na idade adulta direcionou seus questionamentos mais profundos sobre o ser, o mundo e Deus, no momento em que penetrou em dois saberes: Filosofia e Teologia.
Assim, nesta miscigenação de conhecimentos, a pintura era o lado sensível de interagir com o mundo.
O pintor observa a natureza, o homem, as coisas espirituais, a transcendência e procura materializar na tela em cores, formas, transparência, perspectivas, veladuras, fundo e figura.
“Na arte é preciso tempo para ver, o olhar tem que ir além das aparências até atingir essências das coisas”, explica o artista.
Para Araken, a alegria da pintura é ver a beleza contida naquilo que é criado através da pintura. Pode-se afirmar que a beleza é a expressão da verdade. O que é belo é verdadeiro, esta é a grande felicidade de ser pintor, que afirma que “poder saborear a beleza, traz ânimo, além de alimentar o espírito e dar sentido a nossa existência”.
“A pintura é única manifestação de arte que não é narrativa, não tem começo, meio e fim. A leitura da pintura se faz nela, penetrando-a e trazendo-a para si. Enfim, a arte é o sal da vida”, finaliza.
