Estudou também Comunicação na faculdade Hélio Alonso no Rio em 1973,Nesta época trabalhou como modelo e atriz.
O primeiro estúdio de Sylvia foi no Soho,área que na época só moravam artistas.
Em 1983 começou a viajar para a Ásia .
Passou bastante tempo em Bali,na Indonésia ,onde foi a melhor época
da vida da artista.
A pintura sempre fez parte da vida de Sylvia como Nova York foi sempre seu “Lar.”
A Nossa querida artista fez várias exposições pelo mundo.
Em 1998 ganhou um novo estúdio , também no
Soho para ter o seu lugar em Nova York.
Sempre com estúdios, exposições (tudo registrado no seu
website: www.sylviamartins.com ).
Desde o começo dos anos 80 faz diários (agendas)e daí surgiu a
ideia de fazer um livro baseado nas informações destas agendas, que se
Chama: “Sylvia Martins”, que está
a venda no Amazon e na livraria Argumento no Rio.
Nestas agendas tem, desenhos ,fotos de viagens e de eventos,onde utiliza sua trajetória artística como referência.
Em 2000 a artista adquiriu um apartamento
belíssimo no Rio de Janeiro, onde ainda fica quando está no Brasil, morando entre Nova York e Rio.
Seu hobby favorito é a natação, aproveitando a localização de sua residência no Brasil.
Começou pintando figurativo na escola de arte mas com o tempo foi
desenvolvendo um estilo abstrato no qual trabalha até hoje.
Gosta muito da arte contemporânea brasileira, principalmente do
trabalho dos artistas, Ernesto Neto, Daniel Senise e Antonio Dias, entre outros.
Durante a pandemia trabalhou bastante no seu estúdio em Nova York, uma vez que se sente mais segura nos Estados Unidos do que no Brasil.
Sylvia acha que quem é artista sente o chamado bem cedo.
Como dizia Rainier Maria Rilke o artista sabe que é artista quando
não consegue viver sem produzir arte, finaliza Sylvia Martins.
